How antipathy contributes to plot in "Cathedral" by Nelson DeMille

In my opinion, the cashier in this theme was very jealous, self-centered and close-minded. By prejudging the mans personality because he was blind, the narrator fell into the same hole that contains all stereotypes. In this point the narrator was able to get past some of those stereotypes, although the marijuana might have been a contributing factor.
